1959 Chevrolet El Camino (166 Photos)

This 1959 El Camino is owned by Travis Thomas of Redfield, South Dakota.

Here are some small parts after some body work ready for primer. Here is the El Camino's new engine, a 409. Here is the chassis back from blasting and powercoating. We also began installing the new air-ride suspension as well as some brake and fuel lines. Here we had to completely cut out the lower rear window sill and the package tray because they were so rusted. Here is the body after sandblasting everything that wasn't already stripped including the entire underside of the car. Here are some of the guys doing some bodywork. Here is the the new power house of the car, a 409. A 409 hooked to a new Tremec 5 speed transmission. Here is the new Currie rear end with 3.89 gears. Here is the car after being wet sanded and masked for paint. Here it is all painted in Black Cherry base ready for a clear coat. Here is the underside of the car ready for bedliner. Now the rear smoked glass is in. The doors are now on as well as the stainless trim with the center painted White Diamond Pearl. Here we mounted the computer on the back wall inside the cab. Here is the supply tank and control block for the air ride system mounted in place of the spare tire under the box. We mounted the compressor on the inside of the frame rail. Here the front fenders are going back on the car. Here the fenders are both on as well as the grill and front bumper.
